Not everything we made is for sale. There is a version of a fig that was, by any technical measure, competent. Balanced, long, close to its reference. We did not release it because it had nothing to say. Somebody else already makes that fig, and makes it well, and the world does not need our copy of it.There is an oud that failed for the opposite reason. It was interesting for about forty minutes and then collapsed into something flat and faintly sweet that none of us wanted on our own skin at hour six.A third was killed by cost. The material that made it work was the material that made it unaffordable, and every substitution we tried produced something we would have been embarrassed to put a name on.We mention this because a catalogue is an edit, and an edit only means something if things were left out. A short range is not a sign that we ran out of ideas. It is a sign that most ideas do not survive contact with a sixth hour.
